Cancer screening – FICAN

Cancer screening

Cancer screening refers to the systematic search for early-stage cancers within the population. The aim of screening is to detect precancerous changes and early-stage cancers that have not yet caused symptoms. Screening programs are subject to general requirements and are always based on comprehensive research evidence regarding the intended outcomes of the program. The goal is to ensure that screening programs are implemented effectively and based on solid evidence, while minimizing harm and ensuring the sustainability of the system’s resources.

It is the responsibility of wellbeing service counties to organize the cancer screening included in the national screening program. Wellbeing service counties can carry out the screening as part of their own operations, in collaboration with other counties, or as outsourced services.
